Hi Dave, I would add that the alternatives to burning things are to use the sun's energy directly, and not indirectly. So Solar and wind and hydro. This is much more efficient and clean. Nuclear and geothermal can also play a role. Most importantly, conservation, reuse, recycle, re-design, and so on to cut our per-capita energy consumption at least in half. Then by going electric, we will need only a small fraction of the current energy demand. We must stop burning things, with a few minor exceptions like bio fuels for some applications. This would all be part of the "Montreal Protocol for fossil fuels".
