I feel very sorry for the world's poor countries, just as I feel very sorry for the poor and the homeless here in the US. I also agree that the developed countries of the world have caused more harm to the environment than the poor countries. Of course, the developed countries have also developed medicines, advanced seeds, and everything else that resulted in the elevation of the standard of living for billions of people. In addition, beginning after WWII, the developed world and particularly the US has had an enormous foreign aid program, through which we have given the less developed counties trillions of dollars in direct and indirect aid. So I don't think it is reasonable to try to put the entire weight of the global mess on the backs of the US and EU. We have done the best we can within the framework of democratic governments. In any event, fossil fuels will be gone soon, and at that time, you could argue that some of the less developed countries will be much better positioned than the developed countries for what comes next. Please feel free to continue your self flagellation of guilt for your personal contributions to climate change and not helping the poor enough, but while I will continue to be sympathetic, I will not be joining you.
