I think that "eventually" will be in the coming decades. Certainly this century. Everything we do, everything we eat, everything we buy, everywhere we go is dependent on fossil fuels currently. As fossil fuels go away, we will be into a completely different world. The 200 year fossil fuel era is nearly over. Those of us who grew up with "plentiful and cheap" fossil fuels have a difficult time imagining a world without them, but ready or not, it will be upon us soon. No oil, no gas, no natural gas, no propane, no asphalt, etc etc. And without them, no agriculture, no mining, no transportation, no concrete, no steel, no manufacturing, etc. Some of this can be replaced with solar and wind, if we get serious now. But the US doesn't seem to be serious, and if the Republicans take over, then it is truly game over since they promote serious policies about absolutely nothing.
