I understand why you and others essentially give up and drop out after years of frustration. But if the future is little self sufficient communities, it will be a brutal and sad future indeed. There will always be a horde, a mob, a strongman, a violent community nearby that will plunder your crops and burn your villages. Such was the world for tens of thousands of years. I estimate that 30% of all humans happily will follow a tyrant and will rape and pillage as needed. I hope we aren't planning to return to that . . .

There can still be a future with proper planning and implementation. It must be at global, national and regional levels. Unfortunately our leaders generally know little, understand less, and pretend that all is fine.
