If we electrify everything, it will reduce our power needs by a half to two thirds. In addition, in the US, if we were to improve energy efficiency standards, and drive energy conservation practices, our energy needs would also decrease by one third to one half. While I have nothing against trying to get geothermal energy from the mid-Atlantic ridge, we can take simple proven steps that will solve most of our energy problems.

Solar everywhere. Then wind, hydro, geo, nuclear where practical, improve the grid, conservation of energy, conservation of forests, efficiency, recovery, recycling, re-use, reduce consumption, etc. While new technology is always welcome, we don't really need any breakthroughs, just the political will for the governments to do the right things. Everyone knows how to end fossil fuels with the toolkit we already have, it is just that governments don't want to upset voters or cause any temporary inconveniences.
