Of course things are cheaper and more efficient without regulations. If a manufacturer can just dump chromium wastes in the river, and ask children to work dangerous jobs for 12 hours a day, and if sulfur fumes can just enter the atmosphere without treatment --- wow, what a low cost and efficient factory. The right wing wet dream of no costly regulations is a road that leads to disaster for society and the environment. In fact what we really need now is an entire symphony of new regulations to lead us away from fossil fuels and towards clean energy, recycling, re-use, and so on.
