While I agree that reducing cattle farming will not on its own solve the global warming problem, I think it is indisputable that the fewer cows the better. So regardless of the exact numbers, I think everyone can agree that reducing meat consumption is good for many reasons, including global warming, ethics and health.
As every scientist knows, consuming meat for calories is extremely energy inefficient, while at the same time being harmful to the environment.
I also note that you seem to use US numbers and global numbers interchangeably --- which is misleading, But at the end of the day, the final numbers are not as important as the knowledge that raising cows for steak and hamburgers is a very bad idea from an energy standpoint and from and environmental standpoint. So please everyone try to reduce consumption --- every little bit helps.
